Self Referral options

Did you know you don’t always need to make an appointment with your GP to get referred for other services? You can refer yourself for antenatal care, counselling, sexual health, stop smoking support and more. Below are some of the services available for a wide range of conditions you can refer to without needing to go to the Doctor.

Minor Illness & Injury Units

Minor Illness and Injury Units can treat a range of minor illnesses and injuries such as sprains and strains, broken bones, minor burns and scalds, minor head and eye injuries, bites and stings.

Emergency Dentist

The Surgery Doctors are unable to see dental problems.

Emergency Eye Problems

For minor eye conditions including things like watery eye, dry eye, red eye and blepharitis (red, swollen, irritated and itchy eyelids).

NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Talking Therapies

This service provides help to people aged 17 and over who are experiencing common mental health problems such as depression and anxiety disorders, including:

  • generalised anxiety disorder (GAD); 
  • social anxiety;
  •  post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD);
  • health anxiety; 
  • panic; 
  • phobias
  • obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).

They can also help with: 

  • stress, 
  • low confidence, 
  • sleep disturbance
  • self-esteem issues.

Sexual Health

iCaSH (integrated Contraception and Sexual Health) provides all aspects of sexual and reproductive health, including contraception, sexually transmitted infection (STI) and HIV testing and treatment.

Our vision is to provide a high quality, patient-centred service, with the right staff, delivering the right service, at the right time, in the right place.

We also work with Terrence Higgins Trust, who provide community outreach services including free condoms, Chlamydia screening and sexual health advice and signposting.

Our staff are trained to provide expert professional advice and care to meet your individual needs with tact and sensitivity, respecting the diversity of our clients. All information that you give us is confidential and we will not tell anyone else about your personal information. However, there are some exceptional circumstances where we would need to share your information to keep you or others safe.

For example if it:

• is felt to be in yours or the public’s best interest (child or adult safeguarding concerns) 

• is required by the police

• could prevent a serious crime (e.g. terrorism).

We benefit from a partnership with Terrence Higgins Trust in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, providing expertise in health promotion and outreach.

Cornerstone Pregnancy Advice Centre

Cornerstone Care in Confidence are a group of trained volunteers who offer free, unbiased advice on all your pregnancy concerns.

If you are facing an unplanned pregnancy our trained practitioners will give you time, space and information to help you make your own decision. Because we are unable to refer clients directly for abortion you can be sure of impartial advice. We will discuss all options with you and advise you how to proceed with whatever decision you reach.

Women’s Health NW Anglia – Abortions

We have abortion clinics at Peterborough City and Hinchingbrooke Hospital, and you can contact us direct to make an appointment. This is called self-referral which means you don’t need to have an appointment with your GP first.

​We offer abortion up to 18 weeks of pregnancy, where you will be cared for by our specialist staff who have many years of experience looking after women going through this journey. We understand that this can be a difficult and challenging time for some women, we are here to offer you all the support you need.

Podiatry

Podiatry is a branch of medicine devoted to the study, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower leg with podiatrists working to improve the mobility, independence and the quality of life for patients by providing treatment for a wide range of problems affecting the feet. The service provides six branches of specialist care.

Physiotherapy

DynamicHealth provides specialised services for people aged 16 years and over living with or experiencing problems from muscles, nerves and joints. These are known as musculoskeletal (MSK) problems and include symptoms such as pain, numbness, stiffness and weakness as a result of injury, strain, posture or following an operation.

Our experts can assist with managing these symptoms and treat all MSK problems from the neck and jaw to the feet.

DynamicHealth also provides MSK occupational health services and pelvic health physiotherapy.
